The chickens & goats will not be so thrilled about today’s weather!  So far, all of them have been pretty good, but this is the coldest for them yet. Luckily, they have a nice inside place to hide from it!  Hopefully the chickens won’t go on strike today and not lay any eggs…LOL!

Compost Love

These silly goats sure love our compost pile!  We try to build up a pile, but they like to keep it to themselves.  It doesn’t matter tho, as long as they are happy… we are happy!  Peanut butter and Jelly sure do bring smiles to all our faces, as they skip around our yard with all their happiness & joy!!

First Snow!

I am not so sure our chickens and goats will like this weather too much!  This will be their 1st time in snow while living with us.  Luckily, they have a nice coop, run and loafing style shed attached.

More snow is coming!

Goldie is NOT thrilled about more snow coming our way!  We have already had over 3 inches at our house and wasn’t even expected ’til tomorrow…LOL!  One thing that is good… it is actually warmer in the coop with the snow on it.  The coop’s temperature is 49.3 degrees inside, but feels like 13 degrees with average windchill factor outside. I sure bet the chickens are happy that Daddy built a nice coop…LOL! 😛

Goats and Branches

We never knew goats were so silly or liked cleaning leaves off branches!  They are so fun to watch as they go around the yard to eat leaves or weeds.  The good things about the cart… they cleaned off the leaves and now we got more kindling for the fire.  I am sure we’ll be laffing at them for a while!

Chicken Waterer Heaters

“Heated Poultry Waterer Base” costing us only $2.49 to make!  All ya got to do is visit a Goodwill or an ARC to pickup a $0.99 cookie tin container and grab a cheap, ugly, old lamp for like $1.50 to $3.00.  Bring them home and drill a 3/8 hole in the tin, then place some caulk or sealant….DONE!  All ya got to do is gage the right light bulb for your situation of temperatures at night.  We use a newer style bulb that is as bright as the old 60 watt ones.  This saves us money and is much safer, too!

Blessed with Goats!

We’re totally head over heals in love with these two awesome goats!  Their names are Peanut Butter and Jelly.  The bigger white and black colored beauty is a doe that’s an Alpine & Neubian mix.  The smaller brown and black colored one is a handsome wether that’s a Neubian Dwarf.  We were blessed enough to come across them for free!

Sorry about the lack of new updates, but its been a rough few days for us around the homestead. We’ll get a new post up tomorrow, as there’s some new and exciting news that we’re gonna share!

New Egg Layer

image

We’ve been getting eggs from 6 out of our 9 chickens.  So, I go out yesterday to eggs as usual and I notice a new style egg… we got a new layer!  Although, we aren’t totally sure who it is still.  The odds are greatest that it is our Buff Orpington, named Goldielocks.  The egg that’s newest to us is the one on top.  We are just happy to have 7 layers now and maybe one day soon we’ll figure it out…LOL!  Now we just have to wait for the other 2 to start laying! 🙂
